Chef shares recipe for hybrid KFC Big Mac burger

The ultimate combo: Chef creates towering ‘KFC Big Mac burger’ hybrid – and reveals how to make the crispy chicken and secret sauce at home

  • Australian chef Rob Nixon has fused two of the country’s favourite fast foods
  • He created a hybrid McDonald’s Big Mac and KFC chicken burger
  • Mr Nixon shared the recipe on his popular YouTube Channel, Nicko’s Kitchen
  • The chicken is made with flour, buttermilk and eight different herbs and spices
  • The burger is filled from pickles, lettuce, cheddar and re-hydrated dried onions
  • Mr Nixon called for the restaurant giants to collaborate on a burger themselves

A chef with 1.2 million subscribers on his YouTube channel has fused two of Australia’s favourite fast foods by creating a hybrid McDonald’s Big Mac and KFC chicken burger.

Rob Nixon is the brains behind Nicko’s Kitchen, an online cookery show broadcast on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok which specialises in decadent desserts and homemade versions of iconic restaurant dishes.

The culinary star from Perth, Western Australia uploaded a four-minute video earlier this month showing viewers how to make KFC’s famous ‘secret’ herbs and spices and crispy buttermilk chicken, and McDonald’s world-renowned Big Mac sauce.

After building the ingredients into a towering sandwich stacked six tiers high, Mr Nixon called for the restaurant giants to collaborate and stock the burger in KFC and McDonald’s outlets across the country.

Rob Nixon’s mouthwatering KFC Big Mac burger, made with secret herbs and sauces and McDonald’s secret sauce

Mr Nixon called on the fast food giants to merge and create this burger as a product, claiming it would definitely be a ‘top-seller’

Mr Nixon first revealed the eight ingredients that go into KFC seasoning, including popular spices like paprika and ginger, and herbs like basil, oregano and thyme.

The mix also includes more unusual flavours like dried mustard powder and celery salt and pantry staples salt and white and black pepper.

Perth chef Rob Nixon, the brains behind YouTube cookery channel Nicko’s Kitchen

He adds the herbs to a bowl of buttermilk and leaves chicken breasts to marinate in the mixture overnight.

To make the breading mix which gives KFC chicken its famous crispy outside, Mr Nixon adds the same herbs and spices into two large cups of flour, coating the chicken in the dry ingredients once fully marinated.

‘I always double dip the chicken for a crunchier coating,’ he said.

Next, Mr Nixon shared the ingredients for McDonald’s Big Mac sauce, which is based on two tablespoons of mayonnaise mixed with teaspoons of pickle relish, mustard, white vinegar, garlic salt, paprika, dried onion flakes and a pinch of sugar.

Sugar is widely used in sauces to balance out the acidity of other ingredients, in this case mustard and vinegar.

‘Give everything a good mix around until you see that famous [yellowish] colour the secret sauce is known for,’ he said.

To garnish the burgers, Mr Nixon uses classic Big Mac ingredients: two pickles, a handful of lettuce, two sheets of cheddar cheese and some dried onion, re-hydrated in a teaspoon of water just like McDonald’s kitchens’ use.

To assemble, he toasts three buns until golden brown, slicing the base off one which will be used in the middle.

Mr Nixon spreads a teaspoon of sauce on each of the buns, spreading it to the sides before adding the re-hydrated onion and lettuce.

He lays a slice of cheese on the base bun and the pickles on the middle before placing one piece of chicken on both.

‘The two companies should totally merge and make this product, it would be a top-seller for sure,’ he said.

And it’s not the first time Mr Nixon has spilled a McDonald’s secret recipe.

How to make your own KFC Big Mac

For the chicken

Chicken breasts or thighs (as much as you want)

2 tsp paprika

½ tsp dried basil

½ ts ground ginger

½ tsp thyme

1 tsp garlic salt

½ tsp dried mustard powder

1/3 tsp oregano

½ tsp celery salt

½ tsp white pepper

½ tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

2 ½ cups buttermilk

2 cups plain flour

For the Big Mac secret sauce

2 tbsp mayonnaise

½ tsp pickle relish

1 tsp yellow mustard

1 tsp white vinegar

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp dried onion flakes

½ tsp sugar

For the burger

2 pickles

1 slice cheddar

1/2 cup lettuce

1 tbsp dried onions (re-hydrated in a drop of water)

1. Mix herbs and spices and leave chicken to marinate in a bowl of buttermilk overnight.

2. Make the breading mix by adding the same herbs and spices to the flour.

3. Make the secret Big Mac sauce by mixing two tablespoons of mayonnaise mixed with teaspoons of pickle relish, mustard, white vinegar, garlic salt, paprika, dried onion flakes and a pinch of sugar.

4. Coat the chicken twice on each side in the dry breading mix and fry until crispy and golden brown.

5. Toast three buns, shaving the bottom off one to use as the middle.

6. Stack the ingredients and enjoy still warm.

In May, the chef shared his homemade recipe for the world’s best-loved hot chips, revealing the secret to the famous flavour is frying them twice.

He prepared a batch of ‘Maccas’ fries with three potatoes, water and corn syrup, before deep frying them in sizzling canola oil and seasoning with salt.

‘The second fry is worth it for that authentic flavour and golden colour,’ Mr Nixon said in the video.

Mr Nixon saw his fan base multiply during lockdown when tens of thousands of new followers subscribed to his channels to find recipes to make at home with their families.

His simple recipes for DIY Krispy Kreme doughnuts, two-ingredient Nutella cake and air-fried Oreos have been viewed by over four million people.

How to make Maccas chips at home

1. To start, cut the potatoes into thin strips using a mandolin with a chip slicer attached to the end, or with a sharp knife.

2. Fill a large bowl with cold water and submerge the chips to remove excess starch, leaving aside for 10 minutes.

3. Transfer the chips into a bowl of hot water mixed with a tablespoon of corn syrup.

4. Whisk the mixture so that the syrup dissolves, then leave the chips to soak for another 10 minutes.

5. The syrup will infuse a mild sweetness and encourage the chips to crisp golden brown when fried.

6. Once thoroughly soaked, place the chips on a towel and pat dry, then leave in the fridge for 30 minutes to dry.

7.  Meanwhile, heat a generous amount of canola oil in a saucepan until sizzling hot, then fry chips twice in two batches for four minutes each.

John Wick's Director Says The Oscars Should Add A Stunts Award

In a recently published interview with Discussing Film, Chad Stahelski–director of the John Wick films–added his voice to those who demand the Academy Awards add a category for stunt work.

“If wardrobe, hair, and makeup, certainly all the creative departments here are considered for Oscars, then yes, it makes perfect sense that the stunt department would be considered for an Oscar,” Stahelski said in the interview, which also touched on productivity during the shut down and whether he wants to work on more superhero films.

The award issue is important to Stahelski, not only due to the impressive stunt feats of his John Wick films, but likely because stunt work was how Stahelski established himself in the film industry and subsequently moved into directing. He was Keanu Reeves’ stunt double in the Matrix films and later coordinated stunts for the Matrix franchise before co-directing the first John Wick movie with fellow stunt coordinator David Leitch.

Stahelski also designed action sequences for DC’s Birds of Prey, so if the Academy Awards announced a change soon, it would potentially put him up as a contender.

Stunt coordinators have long called for a stunt work Oscar category. In 2016, 100 stunt performers demonstrated in front of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ offices in Beverly Hills and collected a petition with more than 50,000 signatures. At the time, the number of stunt performers active in the industry fell beneath 100 members, and the Academy said that was a prerequisite for consideration.

Trump was ‘given written briefing in Feb. about Russia paying Taliban to kill US tr – The Sun

PRESIDENT Donald Trump was given a written briefing in February that concluded a Russian military intelligence unit offered and paid bounties to Taliban-linked militants to kill U.S. and coalition troops in Afghanistan, according to reports.

The new information, reported by The New York Times, emerged on Monday as the White House attempted to downplay the assessment that Russia had sought to reward such killings.

It had been reiterated by the White House that President Trump was never briefed on the matter, but two officials told The Times that the intelligence was first presented to Trump months ago.

The officials said the information was included in Trump's Daily Brief document, a compilation of the government's latest secrets and foreign policy insights.

The document also focuses on insights into national security.

One source said the information about Russia bounties on US troops was included in late February, while the other said February 27 specifically.

Earlier Sunday evening, Trump had claimed the intelligence on the alleged bounties offered by Russian spies to Taliban militants wasn't credible.

The President took to Twitter as he blasted the shocking allegations as a "hoax", "maybe by the Fake News."

Trump posted to his 82.5 million followers that the US intelligence services have informed him the claims were "not credible," and, because of this, the information was never passed to him or vice president Mike Pence.

Unnamed intelligence officials were reported this week to have claimed Russian spies offered money to Taliban militants to kill US soldiers in Afghanistan.

Unit 29155, an arm of the Kremlin's intelligence agency dubbed GRU, is said to be the brains behind the bounties, reported the New York Times.

The secretive military unit are also claimed to be connected to espionage incidents in Europe.

Trump's claims come after he initially said non-one had briefed him on the matter.

On Saturday, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden slammed the President over the accusations.

Biden said: "His entire presidency has been a gift to Putin, but this is beyond the pale.

“It’s betrayal of the most sacred duty we bear as a nation to protect and equip our troops when we send them into harm’s way.

"It’s a betrayal of every single American family with a loved one serving in Afghanistan or anywhere overseas."

In 2019, there were 20 American soldiers killed in combat in Afghanistan – but it hasn't been revealed which killings are being investigated.

Russia has also denied its involvement, describing the report as "baseless and anonymous" accusations.

The incentivized killing of US soldiers would mark the first time a Russian spy unit has organized direct attacks on Western soldiers.

The accusations officials made against Moscow are reportedly based on interrogations of captured criminals and Afghan militants.

It isn't known who was aware of the alleged covert operation in the Russian government or who authorized it.

Ryan Seacrest Confirms Shayna Taylor Split as Vacation Photos With Mystery Blonde Surface

The ‘American Idol’ host has been caught on camera soaking up the sun accompanied by a woman, who bears a striking resemblance to his chef ex, during a getaway in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

AceShowbizRyan Seacrest is back on the single market. More than one month after wishing Shayna Taylor a “happy third anniversary” during an episode of “Live With Kelly and Ryan”, the daytime TV host went public with the news that he and his on-and-off girlfriend have once again called it quits.

In a statement to the press, a representative for the 45-year-old noted that the former couple “decided to end their romantic relationship amicably some time ago.” His rep further added, “They remain good friends, each other’s biggest supporters and will always cherish their time together as a couple.”

The split confirmation came after Daily Mail released a series of photos that saw the “American Idol” host being joined by a mystery blonde during his June vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Most of the pictures displayed the two soaking up the sun on a sun lounger in a resort. One in particular captured them holding hands.

E! News reported that Seacrest took private jet along with real estate mogul Mike Meldman and a group of friends to catch up on some rest in Cabo San Lucas. As for his time there, an inside source told the publication, “He spent the whole time with his new lady at their private villa.”

Describing Seacrest’s getaway as a “romantic” one, the insider went on to spill, “Ryan looked relaxed and was able to just sit and chat. He didn’t have his phone or computer around and was very attentive and always having deep conversations with his new girl.” The source added that the pair later left Cabo San Lucas together.

Seacrest was first linked romantically to Taylor in March 2013. They went separate ways in late 2014, but reconciled in 2016. Three years later, the pair broke up in February, and got back together by September.

In May 2020, Seacrest touched on their relationship during an episode of “Live With Kelly and Ryan”. At the time, he declared, “I just want to say happy third anniversary to Shayna. It is our third time together. So we’ve gotten together, broken up, gotten together, broken up. This is No. 3 of being together.”

Chiquis, Becky G Cover Dolly Parton's 'Jolene'

Dolly Parton’s Seventies country classic, “Jolene,” has received many a rendition in English, including takes by goddaughter Miley Cyrus, the White Stripes, Pentatonix, and even a queer interpretation by Nadine Gibbs. But nearly 50 years since its release, the legendary song finally gets its first Spanish-language makeover by two Mexican American divas: regional Mexican songstress Chiquis Rivera and reggaeton-pop hitmaker Becky G.

In la nueva “Jolene,” the L.A.-born superstars play two tough-as-nails outlaws — with a soft spot for the same desperado. Produced by Ulises Lozano (of electro-rock band Kinky), and rewritten in Spanish by veteran songwriter Luciano Luna, the Latina update ditches Parton’s delicate folk styling and emerges anew with a brassy, cumbia swing. “If there are so many men in the world/Why do you want mine?” sings Chiquis and Becky in Spanish. In the animated video, modeled after pulp fiction comics of yore, the two broads get revenge on their two-timing lover by tying him to a cactus. Under direction by Julio Abad, the two filmed their parts separately in quarantine, using the green screen technique at home.

Chiquis hails from regional Mexican music’s Rivera dynasty, of which her mother, the late banda singer Jenni Rivera, reigned as queen. The revamped “Jolene” is a cut off from Chiquis’ new cumbia-pop album, Playlist, which was released in May.
