In what French prosecutors are investigating as a possible terror crime, a blade-wielding attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar” and then beheaded a man near a school on the outskirts of Paris on Friday.
The attacker was shot and seriously injured by police moments later, the Agence France-Presse reported.
Bomb-disposal experts were on hand because of the suspected presence of an explosives vest, sources told the AFP.
French anti-terror prosecutors said they are investigating the attack as “a murder linked to a terrorist organization,’ the wire service reported.
The beheading happened Friday afternoon in Conflans-Saint-Honorine, a western suburb of the French capital, the report said.
Police were at the scene after getting a call about a suspicious individual loitering near the school, the report said, citing a law-enforcement source.
Police found the victim, then the suspect nearby.
Confronted, the suspect threatened police, who opened fire, severely injuring him, the report said.
The scene was cordoned off as night fell on the city.
